AEHIA Awards Members At 2018 Fall Summit

At this year’s AEHIA Fall Summit, it was my pleasure to award the AEHIA Innovator of the Year award and the AEHIA Application Team Excellence award to members of our association. These two awards were crafted by our AEHIA Awards committee earlier in 2018.
WellSpan Health Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Mick Murphy earned the Innovator of the Year award for his work advancing clinical ease-of-use and improving other integrated services, and the Guthrie Clinic Clinical IT Applications team received the Application Team Excellence award for their work adapting their EMR upgrade timelines to better prepare clinicians for system changes as well as improve both patient and financial outcomes.
A little more about our award winners this year – at Wellspan, Murphy oversees the integrated health system’s enterprise architecture, IT infrastructure integration and application development. He and his team facilitated clinicians’ access to data by shortening the EMR log-in process from 30-40 seconds to 3-4 seconds, by delivering a well-received Meaningful Use-certified patient portal and by providing technical telemedicine advancements that have improved stroke outcomes.
The Guthrie Application team used three Epic tools to help them identify features to improve clinical and financial outcomes, apply best practices and target appropriate providers and workflows. They also updated their change management process to deliver enhancements every eight weeks. The new process allowed analysts to better plan and prioritize, aligned analysts with trainers and eliminated frequent and surprise enhancements.
